How we
Help
Our mission
StartGiving is a not-for-profit organisation inspiring a new culture of giving in the innovation community.
Our goal is to help hundreds of successful tech founders start their giving journey by launching their own personal charitable foundations. We’re aiming to create millions in new funding for charity and build a dynamic community of givers.
We want to make giving the norm and the expectation.
A fully funded not-for-profit, always free
Daniel Petre AO, a former Microsoft executive and co-founder of multiple VC funds including AirTree Ventures, Australia’s largest fund, founded StartGiving.
Having donated tens of millions of dollars to charities through The Petre Foundation, Daniel has been a vocal champion for growing the levels of giving in Australia.
In 2021, Daniel took a step back from AirTree to focus the third act of his career on philanthropy, personally funding StartGiving in full, so our service will always be free. StartGiving is a registered not-for-profit organisation.
The team is headed up by Antonia Ruffell, one of Australia’s leading experts in private ancillary funds. Formerly CEO of Australian Philanthropic Services, Antonia has supported hundreds of individuals and families with their charitable giving and brings deep knowledge of the not-for-profit sector to the team.
