Hugh Williams

Technology executive

Hugh is a former senior executive at companies including Google, eBay, Pivotal and Microsoft. Earlier in his career, Hugh spent over 10 years researching and developing search technologies and is one of the inventors of Infinite Scroll. He is currently the principal of Via Alto Advisors, a technology advisory practice.

Hugh is a co-founder and the chair of Australian charity Code for Schools. In 2024, the charity supported coding classes for over 64,000 students across Australia.

He is also a board member of Toorak College, and founded the Hugh and Selina Williams Foundation, a private ancillary fund that supports causes that he and his family are passionate about.

“We spent the latter half of my professional career in the US. In the Bay Area, most successful people we knew donated money to causes they cared about and we did the same. Since moving back to Australia, we’ve focused even more on philanthropy. Our whole family spends time volunteering and we set up a foundation to scale our philanthropy. It wasn’t a difficult conversation to decide to increase our giving — it just made sense…We are motivated to contribute to causes that are important to us in our lifetimes.”
